Letter From Our Sheriff

To: Citizens of Caroline County,

As we begin a new year together, I pray that all citizens of Caroline County have a safe, healthy, and prosperous new year. I have been encouraged and blessed by the many well-wishes and words of support following my appointment as Sheriff on January 1, 2023. I am excited about the future and look forward to continuing the great work of the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, while also looking ahead for ways the CCSO can continue to improve public safety for the citizens of Caroline County. One of these improvements is departmental transparency. Transparency has been a major topic for law enforcement in recent years and is vital to maintaining public trust. In an effort to increase transparency, I am actively working with the Caroline County Board of Supervisors to obtain body-worn cameras for our deputies, which will work in conjunction with the camera systems already installed in all of our police vehicles. I will also keep our communities better informed by providing more frequent communications to the public, and adding additional social media platforms. Further, the CCSO will conduct more frequent public meetings. These meetings, such as “Coffee with the Sheriff” will be publicly announced and will provide all citizens with a chance to have open conversations with members of the CCSO. I will encourage all citizens to voice concerns, or simply meet with us to have a cup of coffee and enjoy each other’s company. Secondly, I am restructuring scheduling and obligations of CCSO deputies in order to maximize our current staff, resulting in additional deputies throughout the county, reduced response times, and increased visibility in our communities. Third, the CCSO will work to better engage with the youth of Caroline County. I am currently working with Superintendent, Dr. Calveric, and members of the Caroline County Public School system to design and implement an externship program for students attending Caroline High School. This externship program will provide class credit to the participants and will expose students to the inner-workings of the CCSO. This program provides an opportunity to build positive relationships with our youth, and will hopefully result in Caroline High School graduates joining the CCSO family by choosing to start a career with the CCSO. These are a few objectives I am working to complete as your Sheriff. I am very excited for the future and I am always available for the citizens of Caroline County. I encourage any citizen who has suggestions, concerns, or would simply like to meet, to visit me at the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, or call (804) 633-1120. Together, we will continue to strengthen our community and make Caroline County a model for others to follow.

Sincerely,

Sheriff Scott Moser
